Matica Srpska is the
first literary, scientific and cultural society of the Serbian nation.
It was founded in Pest in 1826 and it was moved to Novi Sad in 1864.
In the long history of Matica Srpska its activities have always been
directed at the education and progress of its nation and the connections
with scientific and artistic achievements of other nations. Its
activities remain the same today.
Matica Srpska expresses great concern about the fate of Serbs on Kosovo
and Metohija and for the territorial integrity of Serbia.
Matica Srpska appeals to the institutions it cooperates with, both
abroad and in Serbia, to jointly stress the undisputable fact that
Kosovo and Metohija are the foundations of the Serbian art and culture.
Matica Srpska appeals to all people of good will to tell the truth on
the destruction and demolition of the oldest Serbian churches and
monasteries in Kosovo and Metohija.
Matica Srpska appeals to all its members and friends to constantly
explain that Kosovo and Metohija are part of Serbia and that the
Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija are guaranteed their rights according
to the highest international standards and often beyond those standards.
Matica Srpska heartily supports the representatives of Serbia who are
defending the name, honour and integrity of their country in
international forums and negotiations.
This appeal was adopted by the Managing Board of Matica Srpska on 12
March 2007. The appeal is directed at all scientific and cultural
institutions in Serbia and the world.
